We are pleased to welcome Physiotherapist Brad Curry to our clinic!
Brad completed a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Victoria in 1997, graduating with distinction. He then completed his Masters of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria in 2000, with his thesis titled “Neuropsychological progression following a concussion”. In 2005 he completed his Masters of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta. During these studies he completed a thesis “Acute effects of dynamic stretching, static stretching and light aerobic activity on muscular performance in women” and was published in JSCR Sept 2009. Brad is a member of SportmedBC, the Physiotherapy Association of B.C. (PABC) and Sport Physiotherapy Canada. Brad Curry is a Content Specialist with the Canadian Sport Institute. Brad is a Sports First Responder. Brad is a past winner of the Dave Magee Award for outstanding contibution to Sports Physiotherapy in Canada.
Brad has been working in Victoria since graduating from U of A. During this time he worked in private practice and spent time with patients in chronic pain and head injury programs, spinal triage for neurosurgeons, and children with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Brad has completed a variety of postgraduate courses in manual therapy (Level 3 Canadian Orthopedics and spinal manipulation from SWODEAM Institute) and obtained his Sport Physiotherapy Certification. He is certified in Gunn Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) through the Institute for the Study and Treatment of Pain (ISTOP).
Brad has special training and experience in sport concussion rehabilitation. Brad can create a customized program designed to evaluate and treat concussions that cause dizziness, poor balance, headaches, vertigo, and reduced spatial awareness. His knowledge in manual therapy provides a hands-on biomechanical assessment of the neck and treat the patient using a combination of vestibular rehabilitation and cervical focused physiotherapy. This combined treatment includes individualized exercises created to improve balance, stability, posture, and neck/eye movement in order to heal the affected sensory systems.
He continues to be a Sessional Instructor for Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries at University of Victoria in Kinesiology (since 2006).
Having completed his Sports Physiotherapy Certification in 2009; he has had the opportunity to work and travel with the National rugby, rowing and field hockey teams. He recently returned from working as a therapist with the Canadian Team to the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. Brad is currently working as Physiotherapist for Canada'a Nation Track and Field Team (Athletics Canada). In 2015 Brad has travelled with the National Athletics Canada Track and Field Team for training sessions in San Diego and Arizona.
Brad Curry has completed four adventure races and still plays hockey on a regular basis.
