Our Staff: Taylor Chestnut
Taylor finished her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (Honours) at the University of Victoria in 2017. While at university, Taylor volunteered in the Neuroeconomics lab, where she used EEG to evaluate how the brain changes with age and how that impacts motor control and exercise. Most importantly, she learned that continued exercise throughout one’s life is the best way to preserve balance, coordination and neuroplasticity.
Growing up, Taylor was an avid track athlete and basketball player. She faced many fitness-related setbacks due to injury and throughout her own recovery, realized her passion for injury rehabilitation and prevention. She learned how to correct her own body mechanics, allowing her to exercise more safely and effectively. The human body is designed to move, and with a little help, anyone can begin to incorporate exercise safely into their lifestyle!
Taylor strongly believes in teaching proper movement mechanics at a young age to promote life-long activity. For three years, she was the co-coach of the Pacific Athletics Track and Field team, with her efforts earning her a spot as a BC Summer Games coach in 2016. Taylor also volunteers at Neuromotion, where she helps patients with various neurological diseases and brain injuries overcome fitness barriers. Adapting to the patients physical and psychological limitations is her main priority.
In 2019, Taylor became a registered Kinesiologist with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists. Currently, she works at the Cook Street Clinic as a part-time kinesiologist and administrator. In her spare time, Taylor enjoys hiking, running, and playing basketball.
