Ian Trenholm
Registered Physiotherapist
Ian completed his Physiotherapy training at the University of Alberta (BScPT 2003) after finishing a degree in Physical Education from the University of Manitoba in 1998.
He is interested in all aspects of rehabilitation yet has a special interest in shoulders, knees and the lower back. He plans to continue his interest in treating the spine as he studies to be a credentialed Mckenzie Diagnosis and Treatment Practitioner (cred. MDT).
A well-trained McKenzie physiotherapy practitioner will be able to identify those more difficult cases where advanced McKenzie physical therapy techniques might benefit the patient versus those patients whose diagnosis is non-mechanical in nature, and those patients are then quickly referred for alternate care, thus avoiding unnecessary periods of inappropriate or expensive management.
McKenzie physiotherapy treatment uniquely emphasizes education and active patient involvement in the management of their treatment in order to decrease pain quickly, and restore function and independence, minimizing the number of visits to the clinic. And if a problem is more complex, self-treatment may not be possible right away. However, a certified McKenzie physiotherapy clinician will know when to provide additional advanced hands-on techniques until the patient can successfully manage the prescribed skills on their own.
